St. Anselm School

Preschool Overview

Curriculum

Saint Anselm School designed the curriculum for its Early Childhood Education Program (SAECEP) to meet the needs of the growing whole child. To meet those needs, the school provides activities to enhance each child’s spiritual, social, emotional, and physical development. It offers experiences in literature, science, art, music, and physical education to further enhance students’ social interaction and intellectual development. The school also provides the opportunity for students to attend gym, art, music, computer and library weekly.

Our preschool follows the curriculum recommended by the Diocese of Cleveland. This curriculum is aligned with and contains the standards as established by the Ohio Department of Education. In addition, the faculty and staff follow guidelines from the National Association for the Education of the Young Child. (NAEYC).

Full Day Students

St. Anselm School offers two options for preschool students and their parents. Students in the three- and four-year-old programs can attend either a half or full day. The full day option is flexible; staying as few or as many full days for the program your child is enrolled. Full day drop in is also available.

Full day students may either bring their own packed lunch or buy a lunch from the school cafeteria. All day students will rest for 45-60 minutes each afternoon. Each student should bring a yoga mat, blanket and pillow from home to be used during rest time.  Rest items will be sent home periodically for cleaning and must be returned the following session.

Features Overview

Busing

While the West Geauga School system provides transportation for many students beginning in Kindergarten, there is no busing for preschool. Parents are responsible for transportation of their child to and from school.

Does my child need to be Catholic?

No, your child does not need to be Catholic, but we do practice a daily religion lesson, prayers, and conversation. All children, of any faith, are welcome.

Uniforms

We don’t require a uniform, but do encourage clothing that will complement the learning environment. We have designed our preschool to promote learning and exploration. Within the program, the children climb, crawl, dance, use clay, paint, and markers, sit on rugs, and often go outdoors. Keep these activities in mind and purchase washable, comfortable, simple clothing for school.

Is snack provided?

Due to allergy concerns, parents are asked to provide their child with a daily snack.

For half day students, we also offer lunch bunch program. Daily, the preschool students may bring their lunches and spend some extra time with their friends from 11:00 dismissal until 12:30 p.m. The cost of the program is $10/day.

Do students attend fieldtrips?

We offer field trips to enrich each child’s learning experience. The field trips may vary from year to year based upon the children’s interests and available opportunities.  We typically offer two field trips each school year. Because of the unique travel and supervision demands of a field trip, we ask that parents drive and attend with their child.
